February Meeting Brief

Chapter 5 Meeting After Action Keeping Our Members in the know!!!
At our meeting on Saturday February 16th, we discussed an abundance of key topics. For those that attended and those unable to, this is a brief summary of the meeting. We want to keep our family in the know!!!!!
  • What we did/discussed this month:
    • I thank all members who attended the meeting
    • We had approximately 82 members attending
    • The minutes from the January meeting were amended and passed
      new members, Transfers, Guests
    • We had a guest speaker Aligned Mortgage speak on VA Home Loans
    • The chapter welcomed 13 first-time attendees
    • We welcomed several new members and voted on Transfers to our family
    • A couple of members joined during the meeting. They liked the way we were bantering each other…. Especially to the Commander
    • Gave the Obligations of New Members
    • We look forward to you becoming active in the chapter’s activities
      Chapter Service Officer (CSO) – National Service Officer (NSO)
    • Introduced the Chapter Service Officers that were present
    • Mentioned how the claims process is changing
    • Please pass the word about the Chapter Claims Assistance Offices.
    • Committees:

    • We still need approximately 52 new members
    • Thank you for all your hard work
    • VG Clark Cancer Trust
    • Mentioned to amount of funds readily available
    • VAVS (VA Volunteer Services)
    • Provided tentative dates for the Floresville Veterans Home Bingos
    • Legend Oaks West Nursing Home is now a VA Contract Nursing Care Facility
    • They are always looking for volunteers
    • Volunteer Services at Audie Murphy VA Hospital is always looking for volunteers
    • The National VAVS conventions for 2020 & 2021 will be held here in San Antonio
      Legislative:
    • If you were part of the Blue Water Navy, you may put a claim in for possible Agent Orange and Asbestos related issues
    • HR 444 is being circulated to eliminate the 12-year rule/limit for using of Voc Rehab
      PAO:
    • Tricare has express scripts for medicine reordering
      Miscellaneous:
    • Mentioned how anyone can join the Commander Action Network
    • How important is it to join and keep updated on legislative actions of the DAV
    • Members were cautioned about trying to do claims (if not a CSO) or being aggressive with veterans about doing claims. There is a time and place
    • Recognized chapter members that had recruited members
    • Recognized Forget Me Not volunteers
    • Voted on the chapter putting a 4X8 sign along Toeperwein Rd to advertise the chapter meetings
    • Gave permission for Treasurer Duke Hendershot to investigate the most economical place to purchase more chapter pens.
    • National Cemetery
    • The Traveling Wall will be at the Assembly Area of the cemetery from Feb
    • 28th till Mar 3rd
      It will be open 24/7
      50/50 drawing was won by Joseph Harrison Jr.
      The monthly money goes toward offsetting the cost of the December Christmas banquet at Golden Corral
      DAV cap was won by Mitchel Lopez
      Happy birthday to all February birthdays

  • Vince Emery had hand surgery and is recovering good
  • Lula Emery (Past Auxiliary Commander) is still recovering slowly but surely
  • Treasurer Duke Hendershot still having hearing issues
  • Alex Sullivan is having severe shoulder issues
  • Bob Broff’s wife has several medical issues
  • Michael Kurth’s wife mouth cancer has returned
  • William Spencer’s mother passed away
  • Commander Crozier’s daughter in law had bone marrow replacement surgery and is recovering well
  • If you know of any chapter member under the weather, please let one of our chaplains/officers know so we may visit and check on them
    Please keep all our members and veterans in harm’s way in our prayers
