Chapter 5 Meeting After Action Keeping Our Members in the know!!!
At our meeting on Saturday June 21st, we discussed an abundance of key topics. For those that attended and those unable to, this is a brief summary of the meeting. We want to keep our family in the know!!!!!
What we did/discussed this month:

Happy Father’s Day

We had approximately 60 members attending
-
The minutes from the May meeting were passed with a couple of corrections
-
New members and transfers
-
The chapter voted in 3 transfer members and welcomed several new members.

Welcome to all our new members and it is always great to see new members.

We look forward to you becoming active in the chapter’s activities
-
The new members were given the Oath of Membership
-
Chapter Service Officer (CSO) – National Service Officer (NSO)
-
Introduced Bruce Cramer
-
The new DSO at Audie Murphy Hospital
-
His office is located on the 1st floor Room B106
-
His information will be added to the website
-
3 of the newly certified CSO’s were presented their Certificates of Training
-
Congratulations and thank you for your dedication to our fellow veterans
-
The Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach & Transition Center VA Claims Assistance Office will start this month.
-
It will be on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
-
This month it will be on June 27th
-
The office will open 10-2
-

We had 3 chapter members on committees

Kevin Crozier was elected as the Alternate District Commander

The Forever GI Bill has been approved

Any veteran discharged after 2013 will have no time limit to use their education allowance

DAV finances are the best they have ever been

$.93 of every dollar goes to veterans

The DAV5K event will be in Kemah this year

This is near the Houston area

The Caregivers Act has been passed

We need to make sure that we don’t automatically assume only men are the veteran. We need to ask both men and women if they are veterans and make sure to thank them for their service

You can go to the DMV and have VETERAN added to your license

On the back of the Drivers License is a toll-free number

It is Roadside Assistance for issues while on a Texas Highway. Free for everyone

Do not give any money to anyone on Federal Property

Do not do anything political in nature wearing DAV apparel
-
Disable Veterans Foundation is a SCAM
-
The several chapter members attended a hiring event at Ft Sam Houston Community Center
-
Several veterans asked about the DAV and inquired about getting assistance with claims
-

Commander Crozier gave a radio interview

It was for the God Family Country Radio Show on 930am KLUP
-
The show was aired on Sunday June 17th at 2000 hrs

The host wants to do the interview every month
-
It was mentioned the DAV office says there is no room to add the wheelchair symbol to DV plates

With DV license plates you can park FREE in all city, county and state parking areas. This includes the airport parking areas

Parking meters are free anytime

Valero/Circle K has Military Mondays. You get free coffee and fountain drinks all day

• Lula Emery (past DAVA Commander) is still having health issues
• Roman Beltran’s wife is in Stage 4 Cancer.
• Roberto Almaraz is still having medical issues
• John Hubble was involved in an auto accident
• Hector Barrios is having knee replacement surgery on June 20th
• Joe Noonan’s grandson is doing remarkable well
• Kevin Raynor is having knew replacement surgery
• Reminder: Drink water in this heat. Dehydration can kill you
• If you know of any chapter member under the weather, please let one of our chaplains/officers know so we may visit and check on them
